Do not you generally anticipate road signs to be useful? However how frequently do you see signs along the highway or in town that might as nicely not be there? 1 factor I have noticed about our component of the country is that, when you are driving on the highway, you are expected to keep in mind the last sign you saw simply because, at the point you will require the info (the exit), there is no sign to assist you! For instance, you see a sign telling that the next exit on the highway is for Hwy SC 253, but when you get to the exit, the only factor on that sign is the exit quantity. If you didn't occur to notice and/or keep in mind the sign a mile or so back, you would have no concept where this exit will take you.
I have driven fairly a bit in France, and let me tell you, it is various! French drivers are ... shall I say ... intrepid? And some of the visitors laws are various. For instance there are numerous intersections with no quit signs or visitors lights.
In that case, the individual to your correct has the correct of way (priorit). Numerous of the road signs are what I call "International Illiterate Signs." Below are some that you might see in Europe (the house of the initial road signs). Of course, the actual signs would be minus the words under them.
Numerous of those signs are effortlessly understandable, but there are some that leave me questioning.
Worse however in France are the signs Toutes Directions (all directions) and Autres Directions (other directions). Here's an example:
I might have missed the logic here, but it appears to me that if the sign Toutes Directions is indicating all directions, how can there even be other directions???
Below is a location in France that leaves you questioning why there is not a "useful" Toutes Directions sign pointing to the left.
Perhaps that is their indicates of keeping down the speed of the drivers as they should go slowly sufficient to discover the sign they require.
Our German pals Uwe and Diana are leaving Friday morning to do some sightseeing for a week in Atlanta, Savannah, and Charleston. Here's a picture of them this evening, with "Ivman Central" in the background....
They, of course, are utilized to the wordless signs in Germany, and so if they see any, they will know what to do. They even have a GPS in their rental vehicle here to assist them get about. But I hope they do not run across any signs like the ones below in which the words will trigger much more confusion than assist.
Perhaps their GPS will assist them in scenarios like the ones below.
I'm certain some of you have funny experiences of driving in an additional country or of having to decipher unhelpful road signs. Please share them with us!
